UK Skilled Worker Dependant Visa

A Dependant visa enables non-national family members of UK visa holders to come to the UK and live together. There are many different visa pathways that allow applicants to join a family member in the UK, including work, study, business, and ancestry visas. This is granted for a specific period of time and allows you to live and work in the UK, so long as there is a valid sponsor.

The UK Skilled Worker Dependent visa allows family members of Skilled Worker visa holders (main applicants) to travel to the UK and join them until the validity of their visa. Eligible family members include the partner(spouse/civil partner/unmarried partner) or dependent child of someone applying for a Skilled Worker visa or already living in the UK under this category.

It is crucial to prove you meet the eligibility requirements using adequate documentary evidence. Here are some important documents that must be included with your application –

Technically, children can apply as dependants of a Skilled Worker. In order for child dependants to apply without the other parent accompanying them, you must prove sole parental responsibility or provide evidence of shared parental responsibility.

A UK Skilled Worker Dependant visa costs the same as that of your sponsor’s application. It depends upon the length of the visa applied for and whether you are applying inside or outside the UK. The cost for less than 3 years, will be £719 when applying outside the UK, and £827 for applications within the UK. Whereas, for applications where the sponsor is granted a visa for more than 3 years, the application fees are £1,420 for overseas applications and £1,636 for in-country applications.
You will also be required to pay £1,035 as Immigration Health Surcharge for each year. Additional fees may also be levied if you opt for priority processing services.

Standard processing times are 3 weeks for an application made outside the UK and 8 weeks for in-country ones.

Yes, you can extend your Skilled Worker dependant visa so long as your sponsor extends their visa or switches to another eligible route.

You must reside in the UK for a continuous period of 5 years to qualify for an Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR). You must also meet the other conditions set out for an ILR applicant.

You can continue to remain on a UK Skilled Worker dependant visa until you qualify for ILR yourself.
